  Recently we contacted Bunbury Lawn Mowing. We contracted them to do a garden makeover and the further into the job the more trouble we had. Their initial quote was given before any of the items had been finalized and from then on all agreements were verbal. The only documents I remember signing were the cheques.
  
  Being elderly, we gave them the go ahead to purchase all items on our behalf. We received the regular accounts which we paid in full, a total cost of $5239.00. About this time my health had improved enough for me to investigate how much we had been charged. When I asked for receipts from them to justify the expenditure none were forthcoming and I carried out an investigation. I went to the suppliers with whom I had established most of the items were purchased and became alarmed at how much the difference between the retail price and the price they charged us.
  
  Not only did they charge us $50.00 dollars per hour for procuring the items, but also marked up the retail prices on those items I identified anywhere from 32% to 740%.
  
  Another issue was the soil mix they supplied for our expensive plants was described to me as a black roadside fill with large lumps of clay in it, with no organic matter whatsoever.
  Our complaints regarding the overcharging and soil mix went unanswered and then they never returned to complete the work.
  
  Because of these issues I took my complaint to Consumer Protection and after they investigated I was advised that they could do little to help because there are no laws to regulate this industry and any overcharging. Apparently it is a case of buyer beware and the customer must carefully scrutinize the activities and charging practices of the contractor.
  Whilst Consumer Protection was investigating we found that the three beautiful golden cane palm plants that we paid $180.00 each for were starting to die because of the soil mix they are planted in.
  
  To cap it all off Bunbury Lawn Mowing offers Senior Discount on their card, we were never offered a discount.
  Now we have contacted another person to remove all of soil mix and repot our expensive plants with potting mix that meets industry standards.
  
  My advice is that if you ever employ this firm, particularly if you are elderly and unwell, be very sure to arrange for the scrutiny of every aspect of their activities.
